World`s largest wind farm erects first offshore wind turbines

The first two Siemens’ 3.6 MW wind turbines were slotted into place on 27 and 28 of January, and should start producing wind power in March, depending on weather conditions.

A spokeswoman said the rest of the wind turbines will be installed throughout the year, along with the remaining 75 foundations that have not yet been sunk.

London Array hopes to complete the first 630 MW phase by the end of 2012, after which it plans to build phase two, taking the wind farm’s total capacity to a world-record 1,000 MW.
