Intertek?s wind power services reduce risk and increase global market access

Intertek (LSE: ITRK), a leading provider of quality and safety solutions serving a wide range of industries around the world, today announced that it has been accredited by the Standards Council of Canada (SCC) to perform large and small wind turbine certifications for the Canadian market to the CAN/CSA C61400 series of standards for design, safety and performance.

“Intertek is committed to helping manufacturers for both large and small wind energy deliver compliant products with independently verified performance.”

The new SCC accreditation adds to Intertek’s existing U.S., Canadian and European accreditations for electrical safety and performance of large and small wind turbines and components. Intertek’s new accreditation completes its full-service solution for wind turbines in North America and provides manufacturers increased options for safety and performance requirements without causing interruption in business or a slowdown in turbine certification.

“More than ever, the wind turbine market is changing at a rapid pace and manufacturers must meet standards in order to remain competitive,” said Troy Hewitt, Global Wind Energy Business Line Leader for Intertek. “Intertek is committed to helping manufacturers for both large and small wind deliver compliant products with independently verified performance.”

Intertek currently holds several wind energy accreditations by IAS, A2LA, UKAS and is an OSHA NRTL for wind turbines. Intertek is accredited to test to global standards including AWEA, BWEA (MCS), IEC, UL, CSA and other Electrical Standards. As a result, wind turbine manufacturers looking to have their large or small wind turbines meet the industry requirements can now partner with Intertek to secure global market access for wind energy products including obtaining IEC Type Certification as well as AWEA and MCS Certification.

“In order to remain competitive, large and small wind manufacturers in North America must think globally and have the ability to continue operations and ensure that turbines are compliant,” said Hewitt. “Organic industry growth for the evolving renewable market combined with our commitment to helping turbine manufacturers achieve an even faster, safer market entry will ensure robust and higher-performing turbines for end users.”

Intertek’s expanded scope of wind turbine testing services adds to a full portfolio of renewable energy product testing and certification services. Intertek now offers the complete North American wind turbine testing and certification solution, in addition to its global services, to meet the needs of this growing market.
