Suzlon announces 166 MW of new wind power orders in India

Product mix of primarily S82-1.5 MW and S88-2.1 MW wind turbines. Strong customer mix covering PSUs, large corporates and SMEs. Repeat customers account for over half of new orders.

Suzlon Energy Limited (SEL) announced cumulative orders of 166.30 MW in India over a two month period, excluding orders announced separately.

These cover various firm orders secured between October 22 and December 22, 2011 and represent a strong customer–mix, covering PSUs, large corporates and SMEs with order sizes ranging from as small as 0.6 MW to 20 MW.

Some of the key projects include:

Malpani Group: A renowned business conglomerate in the state of Maharashtra with business interest in agro, leisure, real estate, entertainment, farming, finance, transport and tea, in addition to wind energy. The group has a 79.85 MW of wind power projects operating across Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka and Rajasthan, and the latest order takes its portfolio to over 100 MW. The Malpani group has been Suzlon’s customer for more than a decade.

Rajasthan Gums: A leading supplier of gaur gum headquartered in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. The company has steadily built its wind energy portfolio, and has projects of 30 MW already operational, and adds 15.6 MW with its latest order. Rajasthan Gums has been Suzlon’s customer since 2005.

Gujarat Power Corporation Ltd: GPCL owns and operates power plants based on different fuels across Gujarat, and adds a new order of 10.5 MW to its existing 6 MW wind farm in Kutch, Gujarat. GPCL has been Suzlon’s customer since 2010.

Sterling Agro Group: A leading name in the dairy products industry, the Sterling Agro Group has a wind farm portfolio of 21.55 MW operating across Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka, this order takes their portfolio to nearly 29 MW. Sterling Agro has been Suzlon’s customer since 2010.

India is the world’s fifth largest wind farm market with a cumulative installed base of over 15,000 MW. The total estimated onshore wind power potential in India, as per the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), stands at over 49,000 MW. The sector is poised for accelerated growth driven by demand for power, strong support for renewables by the Government’s sound policy framework and a positive investment outlook.
