Chubu Electric to enter wind energy project in Thailand

Chubu Electric to enter wind-power generation project in Thailand. Chubu Electric Power Co. said Monday it will participate in Thailand’s first wind-power generation project and sell generated power to the country’s Electricity Generating Authority.

The Japanese utility’s move is aimed at deploying overseas business to build up its management base while raising its technical capabilities and brand power.

The utility’s investment is estimated at several billion yen. It acquired a 20 percent stake each in two local firms to operate the wind-power generation.

The project will build wind-power generation facilities with a combined power capacity of 180,000 kilowatts about 260 kilometers northeast of Bangkok and plans to complete them in March 2013.
