EDF wind energy project gets provincial OK in Quebec

REpower will supply 75 wind turbines rated at 2 MW each for the project to be built by EDF EN Canada. LM Wind Power will supply the blades, Marmen will produce the towers and SEG Woodward will assemble the electrical converters.

EDF EN Canada Inc. is pleased to announce it has obtained the ‘Decret’ from the Government of Quebec authorizing the construction and operation of the 150 MW Massif du Sud wind farm.

The wind power project, located in the municipalities of Saint-Luc-de-Bellechasse and Saint-Magloire in the MRC des Etchemins and in the municipalities of Notre-Dame-Auxiliatrice-de-Buckland and Saint-Philémon in the MRC de Bellechasse, will generate green energy to power the equivalent of over 30,000 Quebec homes.

‘The Massif du Sud wind energy project has progressed in a spirit of sustainable development and integrated management of the territory’s resources. The dialogue established between EDF EN Canada, the municipalities and MRCs, the Conseil régional de l’environnement de Chaudière-Appalaches (CRECA) and local organizations proved extremely productive allowing for all potential community concerns to be recognized and successfully evaluated. All stakeholders worked cooperatively dedicating significant time, energy and attention. Once again, it clearly demonstrates EDF EN Canada’s commitment to develop our projects through broad and open collaboration,’ said Stéphane Boyer, Vice-President-Quebec for EDF EN Canada Inc.

With an investment of close to $350 million, the project will create about 200 jobs during the construction phase, and 8 to 10 permanent operation and maintenance jobs.

Wind turbine manufacturer REpower will supply 75 wind turbines rated at 2 MW each with a significant amount of content manufactured locally. LM Wind Power will supply the blades from their Gaspé plant; towers will be produced at Marmen’s Matane and Trois-Rivières plants; and SEG Woodward will assemble the electrical converters in New Richmond.
