Turkey to hold third wind energy congress

The third international annual congress of Wind Power Turkey will be held in Istanbul between Sept. 20 and 21. Wind Power Turkey, the premier Turkish wind energy event and the third annual congress of the Turkish Wind Energy Association, has become a key meeting place for Turkish and international wind turbines industry leaders that have come to recognize the potential growth and opportunity for the wind farm industry in Turkey, according to organizers.

“Turkey could be among the top three producers of wind energy” and “has a predictable and attractive market for wind energy investors,” according to Christian Kjaer, chief executive officer of the European Wind Energy Association.

Held as part of the Turkish International Renewable Energy Congress, or TIREC, the 2010 event welcomed 500 representatives from the renewable energy, finance and regulatory sectors.

Confirmed plenary session keynote speakers for this year’s event include Aleksander Khetaguri, Georgia’s energy minister; Berthold Goeke, deputy director general of the Renewable Energies Directorate at the German Environment Ministry; Hasan Köktaº, president of Turkey’s Energy Market Regulatory Authority, or EPDK; as well as Halil Alis, the board chairman of the Energy Ministry Electricity Generation Company, or EÜAª.
