SGS Opens SGS Wind Energy Technology Center (WETC) in Tianjin, China

SGS Industrial Services officially opened the SGS Wind Energy Technology Center (WETC) on June 13, 2011, in Tianjin, China. Equipped with state-of-the-art technology, the SGS test center is the first third-party testing center for wind turbines blades in Asia.

In response to the high demand for full-scale testing of rotor blades on an international footing and in China, SGS Industrial Services officially opened the SGS Wind Energy Technology Center (WETC) on June 13, 2011, in Tianjin, China.

The opening ceremony was a high-profile event attended by Mr. Yang Xiao Yong, Director of Tianjin Bureau Quality and Technical Supervision, Mr. Zhang Jun, Vice Director of the management committee of TEDA, Mr. Chris Kirk, CEO of SGS, Mr. Helmut Chik, COO of SGS China and Hong Kong, as well as Mr. Richard Shentu, Managing Director of SGS-CSTC.

During the opening, attendees had an ideal opportunity to learn more about the renewable energy sector, the WETC and Rotor Blade Testing from the prestigious guests present at the event. Visual Inspections are carried out and Non-Destructive Testing methods are used to monitor the condition of blades. The execution and reporting of tests are performed according to IEC-61400-23 with optional accredited witnessing.
