Out of a record number of nominations, Vestas has been recognized by the Ethisphere Institute as one of the 2011 World’s Most Ethical Companies.

This is the fifth year Ethisphere; a think-tank dedicated to the creation, advancement and sharing of best practices in business ethics, corporate social responsibility, anti-corruption and sustainability, has published the World’s Most Ethical Companies rankings. This year Vestas is recognized as being one of the world’s most ethical companies.

“Each year, the competition gets more intense for the World’s Most Ethical Companies and this year was no exception with a record number of organizations vying for this distinguished honor. Ethisphere congratulates Vestas on being one of the World’s Most Ethical Companies for 2011,” said Alex Brigham, Executive Director of the Ethisphere Institute.

Ethisphere reviewed thousands of companies and evaluated a record number of applications utilizing its propriety methodology through in-depth research and multi-step analysis, naming 110 companies that surpassed their industry peers to this year’s World’s Most Ethical Companies list. The 2011 list features companies in 38 industries. A sampling of other industry winners includes American Express, eBay, Ford Motor Company, Adidas, Starbucks, PepsiCo and Xerox Corporation.

Jakob Larsen, Senior Vice President, Sustainability, is pleased to see Vestas name in the rankings.

“This is a constant focus area where we in the next years will see more initiatives to further increase transparency and promote Vestas as an ethical company”, says Jakob Larsen.

The guiding tool for ethical behavior in Vestas is the Code of Conduct. The Code of Conduct is a set of ethical principles which is applicable to everyone working for Vestas or on behalf of Vestas.

When employees need further guidance there are several options to turn to for advice and one of them is EthicsLine. EthicsLine is a tool to use to ask questions about ethical dilemmas or to file a report in case you experience violation of company policies or law. To further increase transparency Vestas is planning to open up EthicsLine to enable business partners to use it too.
