Hertz to Add Renault Electric Vehicles

Hertz Corporation said Wednesday that it had secured a deal underwhich French carmaker Renault would supply it with a range of electric vehicles for its European rental fleets.

Hertz said in a statement that it will become one of the first rental fleet operators to offer customers Renault’s "Twizy" electric vehicle, as well as the ZOE, Fluence Z.E., and Kangoo Z.E. models.

"Hertz is committed to global implementation of our electric vehicle initiative and our planned partnership with Renault will be a vital component of our European roll-out," said Hertz chief executive Mark Frissora.

The car rental group said it intends to add a total of 500 Renault vehicles to its fleets across Europe during the next two years. The deal supports Hertz’s strategy of providing a number of zero emission electric vehicles to its customers.

The Renault vehicles range in size from smaller cars such as the Twizy to the family-sized Fluence Z.E, and van-sized Kangoo Z.E. Electric and hybrid vehicles are growing in popularity and consumer interest has also been stimulated due to improved mileage and higher fuel prices.

As part of its drive to offer all-electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles to environmentally conscious customers, Hertz said it was also forging partnerships with manufacturers, charging station groups, NGOs, corporations and other parties.
