Israel – Proposed wind energy feed-in tariff open for public comment

Electricity (PUA) posted on Monday for public comment the proposed feed-in tariff for wind power. Wind farm connected to the distribution network would receive NIS 0.54 per kilowatt hour and those connected to the delivery network would receive NIS 0.44 per kilowatt hour. The agreements would be in place for seven years.

A feed-in tariff is a government generated incentive. It is the rate at which the government is willing to buy electricity. In the case of wind farms, it is comparable to the cost to the consumer of electricity from coal.

The public hearing is part of PUA’s attempts to provide the economic and regulatory framework to encourage alternative energy production in Israel.
