For more than a decade, Quebec has been on a path to develop its infinite wind energy potential. By 2015, the province will have achieved its target of 4000 MW of installed energy capacity produced by wind turbines – a target that has allowed the emergence of a viable manufacturing industry in the regions of Matane and Gaspésie-Îles-de-la-Madeleine, significantly contributing to economic revitalization of a region hit hard by other resource declines.
CanWEA believes that in order for Quebec and its regions to continue to fully realize these economic benefits, the province can and must continue to significantly increase the wind farm portion in its overall energy portfolio.
The continued development of this infinite resource will insure diversification of renewable energies in Quebec’s portfolio create significant economic benefits for the regions, and support the sustainability of a growing and vibrant industry.
