Wind power in Hungary: Renovalia Energy started operating a EUR 27m wind farm in Babolna

With this new wind farm, located in Babolna -85 km from Budapest-, Renovalia Energy adds additional capacity to its wind portfolio in Hungary, where the company is already one the country’s main wind power players.

Worldwide, Renovalia has 315 MWs in operation, 237 MWs under construction and a 2,4 GW pipeline in wind and solar assets.

Renovalia Energy, an international producer of electric power by means of renewable energy sources (wind, solar photovoltaic, concentrating solar power and mini-hydraulic), has started operating a new 15 MW wind farm in Babolna (Hungary). After this project, Renovalia’s total installed attributable capacity in Hungary has increased to 26.3 MWs, becoming one of the main wind energy producers in the Hungarian wind power market. The company is developing additional wind farms in Hungary.

This new wind farm, has 7 seven wind turbines (six 2 MW Vestas V90 and one 3 MW Vestas V90), with a total investment of 27 million euros investment. Project Financing has been provided by OTP Bank.

The region of Babolna, 85 km from Budapest, where the farm is located, was chosen due to the existence of a wind corridor. The wind farm will produce 3.3 GWh per year, which represents the annual electricity consumption of 88,000 homes. This electric power will be
distributed by E.O.N. In addition, Babolna’s wind farm will avoid 19.800 tons CO2 emissions to the atmosphere.

Babolna’s wind farm is part of Renovalia Energy´s international expansion growth strategy. The Spanish company is present in 8 countries in Europe and North America (Spain, U.S.A, Canada, Mexico, Italy, Romania, Turkey and Hungary) and has a 2.4 GW pipeline,
diversified both geographically and technologically.

Renovalia Energy is a company specialized in the promotion, engineering, construction, operation and sale of electricity generated by sources of renewable energy. The company has a 360º focus: it has wind power, solar photovoltaic, Concentrating Solar Power and minihydraulic projects.

Renovalia Energy is present in 8 countries (Spain, U.S., Canada, Mexico, Italy, Romania, Hungary and Turkey) and has 553 MW in operation and under construction. It owns 10 wind farms, 4 solar photovoltaic plants, a mini-hydraulic power plant and a Concentrating Solar Power plant. The company has a pipeline of 2.4 GW, which is diversified both technologically and geographically.

In 2009 Renovalia Energy managed to avoid the emission into the atmosphere of 380,399 tons of CO2 as a result of the production of renewable energy and the optimization of the efficiency of its assets.
