Québec?s 2nd Wind Energy Industry Gala

Three businesses earned distinction by taking away the honours in one of the five Gala categories; a special jury’s choice award was also presented to a fourth company.

Wind farm developer and operator, Cartier Wind Energy, was particularly outstanding, earning the trophies for the Wind farm construction and Business of the year categories. Québec’s largest wind power producer with 319.5 MW in operation, Cartier Wind Energy caught the jury’s attention for its performance, good business practices and role as an industry model.

In addition, Normand Bouchard, Vice President – Wind Energy, at Cartier Wind Energy, received the prestigious Personality of the year award for his professional achievements, leadership qualities and the professional recognition of his peers.

Le Centre hydraulique HYDREP inc., specialising in the design and production of wind turbines braking systems, took the honours in the Component manufacturing category. The firm, which has its head office in Jonquière, earned distinction for the innovative nature of its product, research and development efforts and successful integration of the supply chain of a major international wind turbines manufacturer.

Le Groupe Ohméga, located in Gaspé, won the trophy in the Service company category. Having notably developed valuable expertise in the area of wind energy-related automation and telecommunication consulting engineering, Le Groupe Ohméga drew the jury’s attention for the innovative nature and quality of its services, market development and impact on the wind energy sector.

Finally, the jury felt it important to present a special award to the Gaspé Peninsula firm, Techéol Inc. which is responsible for the service and maintenance of four wind farms. By presenting this award, the members of the jury wished to draw attention to the vision and determination of this SME which has succeeded in diversifying its activities in the wind energy field.

It is important to salute and reward the work of industry stakeholders who daily endeavour to further their expertise and advanced skills. The Gala also gave us the opportunity to draw attention to the rapid and intense development of Québec’s wind energy network over the course of the last few years and its ability to meet challenges,” declared Frédéric Côté, General Manager of the Wind Energy TechnoCentre, the organisation that initially proposed the Gala.
