Siemens wins wind energy order in Norway

"The deals are the first wind turbine contracts, signed by Siemens in Norway and mark the start of a massive wind power initiative," head of renewable energy at Siemens AS, Tore Tomter, said.

The agreements cover delivery of 11 wind turbines for the Nygardsfjellet wind farm in Narvik and 32 turbines for the Hog-Jaeren wind farm. Deliveries are due to start in the summer of 2011.

The two wind farms will have a combined production capacity of around 340 GWh, corresponding to one-third of Norway’s combined wind power output in 2008.

The new turbines will supply with electricity a total 18,000 households.
