Southern California Edison Sponsors ?Getting Ready for Plug-In Electric Vehicles?

WHAT: Plug-In Electric Vehicles (PEV) are expected on the market in 2010. With them come important changes required to power these vehicles using alternative fuel sources. Where will these new vehicles get the necessary electricity? What are the anticipated rate and charging options? How is Southern California Edison (SCE) preparing for these changes and what do customers need to do?

WHO: SCE experts will be available at the Los Angeles Auto Show to discuss the critical components necessary to meet the fueling requirements associated with PEVs. They also will provide insights on overall utility and customer readiness, electric vehicle expertise, customer service, impacts on the power grid, and related costs.

Interviews also can be arranged with SCE executives before and after the Los Angeles Auto Show. SCE has the right experts to address “getting plug-in ready.”

WHEN: Wed., Dec. 2, and Thurs., Dec. 3, 2009

BACKGROUND: SCE has launched a corporate-wide electric vehicle readiness effort focused on customer adoption of PEVs. Based on a survey of leading forecasts, SCE estimates approximately 100,000 PEVs will be in its service territory by 2015 and 400,000 by 2020. And those estimates could double if gasoline prices increase and/or the price of PEVs drop.
