EDP opens major wind farm in Poland

The investment project worth EUR 166 mln is geared towards customers in Poland and in other CEE countries. The first stage of the wind energy project was completed within a year. The complex of 60 turbines will generate enough wind power to provide yearly energy supplies for 50,000 households.

The overall productive capacity of the wind farm in Margonin will equal 120 MW, around half of the overall capacity of all the wind farms currently active in Poland. The investment will not only be beneficial for the Margonin commune in that it will create new jobs but will also entail road and other infrastructure elements’ modernisation. The inauguration was attended by EDP Renewables president Antonio Mexia.

EDP Renováveis opens wind farm in Romania

EDP Renováveis announced its plans to erect a wind farm in Medgidia, Romania, which is expected to power up operations by mid next year. The project would have an installed capacity of 90 megawatts, which would bring the total costs to around €100 million, said the managing director of consultancy firm Wind Expert, Andreea Vatra.

The wind farm will start generating electricity by mid next year. It has 30 turbines acquired from Danish-based Vestas. The construction of the wind farm kicked-off in July this year.

EDP added that a 300 megawatts offshore wind farm in the Black Sea is on the pipeline. For the time being, feasibility studies are conducted.

EDP Renovaveis SA has won bids to build wind farms with a combined electricity generating capacity of 246 megawatts in the northern Spanish region of Asturias.

The regional government of Asturias has notified EDPR that it has granted it a preliminary license to build the wind power parks, which represent 36% of a total of 676 MW that were offered in a tender.

EDPR now needs to get its projects for the wind farms in Asturias approved in a pre-registry for wind power projects of Spain’s central government.
