"Northern Power has an enormous opportunity to place its next generation 100 kW turbines across Europe in numerous distributed generation applications," said Rein Oussoren. "I am extremely pleased to join the company and lead the establishment of a rapidly growing European sales and support organization."
"As Northern accelerates its growth in Europe and builds a strong sales and support organization, it is critical that we have world-class leadership on the ground in Europe," said John P Danner, President and CEO of Northern Power Systems. "We could not be more excited to have a professional of Mr. Oussoren’s caliber join our team."
Prior to establishing its European office, Northern Power Systems had already booked over euro 5 (7.28 USD) million in orders for its 100 kW turbines across Europe for applications that vary in size and need. For example, turbines in the United Kingdomare being installed at sites that include schools, hospitals and municipal facilities. In Italy, turbines have been purchased singly and in pairs by independent power developers to take advantage of the euro 0.30 (0.44 USD) per kWh Feed-In-Tariff (FIT), which is limited to installations up to 200 kW.
The Northwind 100 has a unique permanent magnet direct drive (PMDD) design that ensures higher energy capture, delivers "grid-friendly" power quality and dramatically reduces maintenance. The gearless design of the Northwind 100 is quiet, reliable and fully conforms to CE marking provisions. Sophisticated controls and safety features of the turbine include 24 hours per day, 7 days per week remote monitoring and support, which make the Northwind product line exceptionally well suited for entrepreneurs, landowners, farms, schools, municipalities and investors in the fast-growing European wind market.
