Two companies were awarded a contract with the State of Peru to supply 142 megawatts of wind power to electricity market through three wind farms, said the Osinergmin.

Three wind farms will be built in Peru providing 142 MW

Two companies with Spanish capital today in Lima was awarded two wind energy contracts with the Peruvian government for the construction of three wind farms, said the Supervisory Agency for Investment in Energy and Mining (Osinergmin).

Wind Energy (Energía Eólica), Peruvian and Spanish capital, and the consortium formed by Cobra Peru (Spanish owned by ACS) and Peru Renewable Energy, will be responsible for providing the Peruvian state 142 megawatts (MW) wind power through wind turbines.

Were 20 companies that qualified as bidders in the auction process to produce electricity using solar energy source, wind energy, biomass and mini hydro.

The energy required per year with wind power technology was set at 329 gigawatt hours (GWh) and 571 GWh but was awarded to two companies: Wind Energy, Peruvian and Spanish capital, and the Consortium Cobra Peru - Peru Renewable Energy.

Wind Power Company will construct the wind farm Cupisnique with a power of 80 MW and will be located in Trujillo (La Libertad) and the wind farm Talara (Piura) with 30 MW of power. While the Consortium Cobra Peru - Peru Renewable Energy will build the wind farm Marcona (Ica) of 32 MW.

The general manager of Wind Energy, Juan Coronado, said the price offered by MW was less than that fixed by Osinergmin of $110 per MW.

In the case of energy based on biomass, the order was 813 GWh and 843 GWh was awarded, and for solar energy was auctioned and won 181 GWh and 173 GWh.

In the country's coastline there's a potential of 65,152 megawatts. Wind power in particular has a bright future in the country: the World Meteorology Organization says Peru has 28 of the 32 climates appropriate for wind power generation, and that only in the country's coastline there's a potential of 65,152 megawatts.
