Wind energy in Chile: Siemens Gets First Wind Farm Order

Siemens AG (SI) said Monday it received its first wind turbines order from Chile, for a total capacity of 115 megawatt.

Clients for the El Arrayán wind power project, located approximately 400 kilometers north of Santiago, are the partners Pattern Energy Group LP, Ashmore Energy International and Antofagasta Minerals SA.

The scope of wind power supply encompasses delivery, installation and commissioning of 50 wind turbines, each with a capacity of 2.3 megawatt and a rotor diameter of 101 meters.

The wind energy order includes a five-year service and maintenance contract. After the commissioning planned in early 2014, El Arrayán will be the largest wind farm in Chile and provide clean power for up to 200,000 households.
