314 electric vehicles sold this year in Spain

The electric car startup is slow, but irreversible: this year 314 electric cars have been sold, most with lithium ion batteries.

Electric car sales amounted to 314 units so far this year, a figure that represents a tiny share of 0.04%, compared to 741,600 passenger car registrations in the period January to November.

According to the Institute of Automotive Research in November the electric car sales rose to 45 units which accounted for 0.07% market share of about 60,395 cars registered.

The year comparisons of electric vehicle registrations are irrelevant, because in 2010, monthly enrollments of these electric cars were counted in units.

The vast majority of these registrations are for electric vehicle fleets of companies or government entities and the purchase by individuals not reached twenty units.

It turns out that regions such as Extremadura and Rioja have not yet enrolled in an electric car this year, while the Canary Islands, Cantabria, Murcia and Navarre recorded a single electric vehicle.

Among the leaders of the electric car market, Madrid has enrolled 149 electric cars, followed by Catalonia and Andalusia with 56 and 22.
