LM Wind Power inaugurates second plant in Gujarat, India

LM Wind Power, Danish wind turbines producer, announced the commissioning of its second plant in India.

Vadodara, Gujarat based plan was announced in November 2015. It has begun the production of wind turbine blades a month ahead of schedule. With the new announcement, LM Wind Power’s total installed capacity in the country has increased to 1.6 Gigawatts (GW) per annum.

LM Wind Power CEO Marc de Jong said, “With this new blade plant, we bring employment, advanced training and development of technical skills to Gujarat. We will help to build a clean renewable energy base in a fast growing economy.”

“We are very optimistic about the growth of the wind energy sector in India. With the government setting a target of 60 GW by 2022. We have over 20 years of experience of operations in India.” said Marc de Jong, CEO of the company.

“Government should make rules easy for import of new technology equipment in India. This will help the industry in many ways. It also helps matching the target set by government in renewable energy,” said Marc De Jong.

Niraj Bisaria is Head, India operations, LM Wind Power. He said, “We have our order book fully booked by domestic customers alone. Our revenues were ?750 crore in 2015. We expect to increase to ?1200 crore by the end of 2016.”

The Vadodara plant has an investment of 25 million euros. It will supply blades to wind projects in north India and beyond. The plant will produce blades up to 60 metres in length.

This 50 acre plant can offer employment to 400 people from nearby villages in beginning. Currently, LM Wind Power has around 1400 employees in India. The company runs a highly efficient blade manufacturing facility in Dabaspet, Karnataka.

Company also runs a global technical centre for research and development services in Bengaluru. LM Wind Power entered in Indian Market in 1990. Karnataka was its first location outside the Denmark. The Dabaspet plant is known for its outstanding safety and sustainability performance.
