Wind energy in Brazil: Gamesa awarded debut order by renewable energy producer Voltalia

Gamesa, a global technology leader in wind energy, has secured its first order from fast-growing electricity producer Voltalia, listed in the Paris stock exchange. Gamesa will supply with 27.3 MW at Voltalia’s Vila Acre wind facility in the state of Rio Grande do Norte, in North-Eastern Brazil.

Gamesa will supply 13 of its G114-2.1 MW turbines which are especially successful for the Brazilian wind conditions of constant winds and low turbulences. The Brazilian orderbook for this turbine has already exceeded the 1-GW mark, being one of the most contracted products in 2015 energy auctions.

This new order -the first awarded by Voltalia, a French renewable electricity producer established in Brazil for a decade- evidences the company’s solid positioning in Brazil, an important market in which the company has entrenched itself as the number-two OEM. According to MAKE Consultancy, Gamesa tripled its presence in this market in 2015, increasing its market share from 10% in 2014 to 29%.
