Torrent power to develop 197.40 MW wind power projects in Kucth, Bhavnagar

Ahmedabad based Torrent Power Limited, an integrated power utility of the Torrent Group,has entered into a contract with a leading wind turbine manufacturing group for development of 197.40 MW Wind Power Project across three sites in Gujarat.

A company spokesperson here today said that the capacity would be developed across three sites in Kutch and Bhavnagar districts. ‘This Project is expected to be commissioned progressively by March 2017 and shall have off take arrangements for fulfilment of Renewable Power Purchase Obligations,’ he said.

The company forayed into renewable energy generation in the year 2012, by commissioning the 49.60 MW Wind Power Project at Lalpur in Jamnagar district of Gujarat. Subsequently, It also commissioned (through its wholly owned subsidiary) the 51 MW Solar Power Project at Charanka Solar Park, Gujarat in year 2015. The company is also implementing the 81 MW Solar Power Project at Kamrej, Surat and the 136.80 MW Wind Power Project in Rajkot and Surendranagar districts of Gujarat, the spokesperson said.

Torrent Power Limited is one of the largest private sector players in the country present in power generation, transmission and distribution. Its current installed generation capacity is 3202 MW and it distributes nearly 14.01 billion units to over 2.95 million customers in the cities of Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Surat and Dahej SEZ in Gujarat, Bhiwandi in Maharashtra and Agra in Uttar Pradesh. The company is also in the business of manufacturing and supply of cables.
