EDF Energies Nouvelles wins 117 MW of wind energy projects in Brazil

EDF Energies Nouvelles has announced winning a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) under an auction organized by the Brazilian government for 117 MW of wind power capacity to be installed via its local subsidiary, EDF EN do Brasil.

 

The 117 MW of projects will be set up in the state of Bahia, where EDF EN do Brasil is developing a portfolio of wind energy projects in partnership with SOWITEC.

EDF Energies Nouvelles has taken another step forward in its development in Brazil. Following a Reserve Energy Auction organized by the Brazilian regulator, EDF EN do Brasil has won a new 20-year Power Purchase Agreement with the country’s Power Trading Chamber (CCEE) regarding 117 MW of wind power.

Building of the new wind farms is planned to start in 2017, with a view to supplying electricity by the end of 2018.

These future wind farms form part of the second tranche of Ventos de Bahia’s wind energy projects, representing a potential 800 MW, located at the heart of one of the windiest regions in the state of Bahia.

EDF Energies Nouvelles entered the Brazilian market in February 2015 with the acquisition of 80% of the Ventos de Bahia cluster, including an energy supply contract for 66 MW of wind power projects.

The site is jointly developed with partner SOWITEC, which is renowned for its local expertise.
