Wind power in Finland: WPD to start 72.6 MW wind farm

WPD is set to commence construction of the 72.6MW Tohkoja wind farm in Finland. The Tohkoja wind farm, which is the company’s third project in the country, will be backed by wpd equity, the Commerzbank and the Norddeutsche Landesbank Girozentrale.

Featuring 22 wind turbines, the project is planned to be completed in December. WPD Finland managing director Esa Holttinen said: “This neighborhood will bring synergy to the realization of both projects; they are connected, for example, to the same 110 kilovolt power line through a common substation.”

WPD acquired the project, which is located in the municipality of Kalajoki at the west coast of Finland near WPD’s Jokela wind farm, in January 2014 from the Finnish energy utility Fortum.

The company expects the Jokela and Tohkoja wind power projects to form the largest wind energy production area in Finland upon completion.

Local building company Kuljetuspolar was selected by WPD for the development of roads and turbine assembly areas for the Tohkoja project.
