Hitachi Zosen, to build 220 MW offshore Japan wind farm

Hitachi Zosen Corp. and nine other companies plan to build a 220-megawatt offshore wind farm in northwestern Japan.

The companies will build the station off the coast of Murakami city in Niigata prefecture, the city said in a faxed statement. Construction will start in April 2020. Financial terms weren’t provided.

The Nikkei newspaper reported today that the project will cost about 100 billion yen ($852 million).

Japan introduced an incentive program for clean energy in July 2012 to boost the use of solar, wind, geothermal, biomass and small hydro power.

Sumitomo Electric Industries Ltd. and Mitsubishi Corp. will be among the companies taking part in the project, according to the statement.
