Nordex gets wind energy order in South Germany

Nordex is building further on its success with the N117/2400 in South Germany.

The wind turbine manufacturer has now received two orders at the same time from its new customer, the Fronteris Group from Regensburg.

The sites for the two projects, “Hohenzellig” and “Bucheck”, are located near Hof in Bavaria, where the wind turbines will achieve an above-average capacity factor of up to 34 percent. This high energy yield is possible because the N117/2400 is ideally suited to the regional wind conditions and Fronteris decided to have 141-metre hybrid towers installed for the project.

“We look forward to working together with Nordex and the use of modern, efficient turbine technology especially designed for inland sites,” says Andreas Böhm, Managing Director at Fronteris. The project was developed by Primus Energie GmbH, a subsidiary of the Fronteris Group. The two projects are due to be completed at the end of 2015.

Both contracts included a Premium Service Agreement with a term of 15 years. Nordex will be establishing a service station at the site in time for grid connection of the wind farms in order to guarantee timely technical maintenance on a realistic basis. “For the investors in the Lacuna Hohenzellig wind farm and the Lacuna Bucheck wind farm the establishment of the local service station provides additional security,” says a pleased Thomas Hartauer, Management Board member of the Lacuna investment company, which also belongs to the Fronteris Group.

Together the two wind farms will supply at least 20,000 households with “green” electricity, making a valuable contribution to the regional energy balance.

As a technological leader among suppliers of megawatt turbines, Nordex benefits particularly from the global trend towards large wind turbines. The Generation Gamma product range comprises the N90/2500, N100/2500 and the N117/2400, which is one of the most efficient inland series turbines. To date more than 2,600 turbines from this platform have been produced. With Generation Delta Nordex is now offering the fourth turbine generation of the proven multi-megawatt platform (N100/3300, N117/3000, N131/3000). Overall, Nordex has installed a more than 6,000 turbines with a capacity in excess of 10,000 MW around the world. With exports accounting for around 80 percent of its business, Nordex SE also has a strong position in international high-growth regions. The company has offices and subsidiaries in 22 countries around the world. The Group currently employs a workforce in excess of 2,700 worldwide.
