Uruguay is preparing to buy 59 wind turbines from Nordex for a wind farm developed by state utility UTE

The order is expected to cover supply and installation of Nordex N117 2.4MW turbines (pictured) at the 141.6MW Pampa wind farm in the department of Tacuarembó in early 2015.

Nordex will operate the wind farm and UTE will buy power under a 20-year deal.

The German manufacturer signed supply and finance agreements with local entity República Administradora de Fondos de Inversión S.A. last week, UTE said.

The wind power project’s $275m capital investment will be provided 70% from German financiers KfW and Bayern LB and 30% from Uruguayan financiers, UTE said. Final approval is pending from Uruguay’s central bank.

The deal, once confirmed, will be Nordex’s third in Uruguay, following previous deals for 50MW with Akuo Energy and 67.2MW with UTE.
