World Bank Study Outlines Potential of Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) in India

“Great potential for concentrating solar power in India,” says Joint Secretary for New and Renewable Energy.

Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) holds out the promise of stable, clean and locally-sourced power for countries with abundant sunlight. CSP has the added advantage of being able to dispatch a sizeable amount of power to the national grid as needed. The major drawback has been cost. In contrast to widespread solar photovoltaic (PV) technology, CSP is still not mature enough to deliver electricity at competitive prices resulting from economies of scale.

A new World Bank report offers grounds to believe that this obstacle can be removed, at least in one sunny country with a very large market: India.
