New Orders Drive ACCIONA Windpower

ACCIONA Windpower has finalized agreements that bring the total footprint for the Company’s AW3000 turbine to 1 GW. ACCIONA Windpower reached this milestone through strong first-quarter sales. In 2013, ACCIONA Windpower has completed over 500 MW of orders to supply AW3000 wind turbines to projects in North and South America.

“ACCIONA Windpower is gaining momentum in the market by focusing on technological innovations that lower the cost of energy and give our customers’ projects a competitive edge,” said Jose Luis Blanco, CEO of ACCIONA Windpower. “The growing order book and excellent performance of AW3000 turbines is attracting interest from customers worldwide.”

In addition to projects operating AW3000 turbines in the United States and Spain, ACCIONA Windpower’s footprint for the AW3000 will extend to Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Poland and South Africa. All 1 GW of new orders are expected to be in operation by the end of 2015. ACCIONA Windpower is still taking additional orders for delivery in 2014 and beyond.

ACCIONA Windpower has been successful with the 116 meter rotor option for the AW3000 introduced in 2011 and recently launched a 125 meter rotor option for low-wind sites. Over half of the orders also specify ACCIONA’S 120 meter concrete tower, which allows the cost-effective capture of more energy at taller heights. ACCIONA’s concrete towers can also be built on-site, which increases the local content of a project.

ACCIONA Windpower designs and manufactures 1.5 and 3 MW wind turbines. It has three assembly plants (two in Spain and one in the USA), and a turbine blade manufacturing facility also in Spain. Since 2004 it has manufactured wind turbines totaling more than 4,000 MW wind parks installed or contracted in 17 countries. It is a subsidiary of ACCIONA Energy, a global operator in clean energies with over 20 years’ experience in the sector and a strong presence in five renewable technologies.

It belongs to the ACCIONA Group, one of the leading Spanish corporations, which operates in infrastructures, energy, water and services in over 30 countries. Its corporate motto “Pioneers in development and sustainability” reflects its commitment –in all its activities- to contribute to economic growth, social welfare and the protection of the environment. This effort has been recognized through its inclusion in the Dow Jones (DJSI) and FTSE4Good sustainability indexes. ACCIONA is quoted on the Ibex-35 stock index, has a workforce of around 31,000 worldwide and earned revenues of 6,646 million euros in 2011. www.acciona.com
