Vestas clinches 40MW order to supply wind farm in Poland

Vestas will deliver 20 of its V90-2.0 MW wind turbines to a project at Wicko near Gdansk, northern Poland.

Vestas has received an order from Aldesa Nowa Energia Sp. z o.o. for delivery of 20 units of the V90-2.0 MW wind turbine for Poland.

The order has a total capacity of 40 MW and the turbines will be installed in Wicko in the Pomerian province in the northern parts of Poland near Gda?sk. Delivery of the turbines is scheduled to start in the second quarter of 2013 and the project is expected completed in the third quarter of 2013. The order includes supply, installation and commissioning of the turbines, a VestasOnline® Business SCADA solution as well as a three-year service and maintenance agreement (AOM 4000).

Aldesa Nowa Energia Sp. z o.o., the chosen engineering and construction contractor and tenderer, is a fully owned subsidiary of the Spanish Aldesa Group focusing on construction, renewable energies, engineering, real estate, auxiliary services and concessions. The second largest utility in Poland, Tauron Polska Energia S.A., is the end owner of the Wicko wind power plant. This is the second project in 2012 with Vestas turbines and Tauron Polska Energia as the end owner. Earlier this year, Vestas turbines were selected for a project only 50 km away from Wicko (ref. news release from Vestas Northern Europe of 7 March 2012).

Poland is one of the most attractive wind energy markets in Europe due to its excellent wind speed conditions in large parts of the country and the outlook for a growing Polish market. Vestas has been operating in Poland for almost 10 years and recently, Vestas also opened an office in Warsaw. According to IHS Emerging Energy Research, “Europe Renewable Power Generation Market Forecast 2011-2025 Fall Update”, Poland has the potential of reaching 7 GW of installed capacity by 2020. This is also underlined in the Polish National Action Plan for Renewable Energy adopted by the Ministry of Economy in 2010.

Poland is one of the key markets for Vestas in a global perspective. We are very happy to be chosen as supplier of turbines for the Wicko project and we look forward to working in a close partnership with both Aldesa and Tauron and continuing the expansion of wind power in the Pomeranian region,” says Klaus Steen Mortensen, President of Vestas Northern Europe.
