Moldova Noua wind farm in Romania enters operation

The fully operational plant, comprised of 21 2.3 MW SWT wind turbines with a total installed capacity of 48MW, 25MW of which have been online since December of last year, will be capable of generating some 130 million kilowatt hours, thus avoiding the emission of over 70 thousand tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere.

With an installed capacity of 48MW, the fully operational plant will be capable of generating 130 million kWh per year.

Enel Green Power (EGP) has completely connected the new Moldova Noua wind farm in the Banat region of Romania to the grid.

For Moldova Noua and the Corugea wind farm, which is also in Romania, EGP obtained 112 million euros in funding last year from the Danish government’s Export Credit Agency (“EKF”) to cover part of the investments necessary for the building of the two plants. EKF carries out activities at the institutional level to support components manufacturers in Denmark, which EGP has utilized during the construction of the two plants.

“We are moving forward with our strategy of strengthening our renewable energy output in Romania,” stated Francesco Starace, Enel Green Power CEO. “The commencement of operations at Moldova Noua, entirely within the timeframe we had set, is an important step in this direction.”

Currently, EGP has wind farms totalling 292 MW operating in Romania (including the new Moldova Noua plant), and it has others under construction totalling 206 MW.

The Enel Group has been present in Romania since 2005, and is now the leading private investor in the electricity sector with about 4,500 employees and a 90,000 km network that serves some 14 million customers.

Enel Green Power is the Enel Group company fully dedicated to the development and management of renewable energy sources at the international level, with operations in Europe and the Americas. The company generated 22.5 billion kWh in 2011 from water, sun, wind and the Earth’s heat – enough to meet the energy needs of more than 8 million households and avoid the emission of over 16 million tons of CO2 into the atmosphere.

Enel Green Power is a world leader thanks to its well-balanced generation mix, providing generation volumes well over the sector average. The Company has an installed capacity of over 7,500 MW from a mix of sources including wind, solar, hydroelectric, geothermal, and biomass. Currently, EGP has over 680 operational plants in 16 countries in Europe and the Americas.
