Siemens wins more Spanish CSP concentrated solar energy business

Siemens will design, supply, integrate and construct the concentrated solar energy plant, including the mirrors and solar receivers. Siemens has received an order from EPC UTE Termosolar Borges for a 22.5 megawatt (MW) solar field to be located in Catalonia, Spain. Siemens will design, supply, integrate and construct the concentrated solar energy plant, including the mirrors and solar receivers.

Siemens says the solar thermal plant, which will be located in Les Borges Blanques, near Lerida, will also include energy from biomass. It is scheduled to be operational by the beginning of 2013 and is expected to generate enough energy to supply around 27,000 households.

"Les Borges Blanques solar thermal plant is a unique project, with a steam turbine that is driven by steam produced either by sunlight or/and by firing biomass," explains Siemens.

"Together with the 50 MW Arenales concentrated solar energy project announced earlier this month, and the 50 MW Olivenza concentrating solar power project announced in July, Siemens Energy is now constructing 122.5 MW of parabolic trough solar fields."
