Acciona Energy inaugurates Lameque Wind Energy Project in Canada

Acciona Energy North America has inaugurated the Lameque Wind Farm at the Acadian Peninsula of New Brunswick, Canada.

The 45 MW wind farm, initiated by La Cooperative d’Energie Renouvelable de Lameque, began construction late last summer and was officially brought online in the first quarter of 2011. The Lameque Wind Power Project is Acciona Energy’s fourth wind farm in Canada and the first in the country to employ Acciona Windpower wind turbines

"Our company did not work alone in bringing this wind energy project to fruition – the people of Lameque and our partners’ support and dedication was essential to completing this project," said Dan Foley, CEO of Acciona Energy North America. "We are very proud of this wind facility and we are excited to celebrate its completion and operation with the people who helped build it."

The project’s thirty 1.5 MW Acciona Windpower wind turbines are spread over approximately 3,100 acres. Sixty-eight landowners have lease agreements and are participating in the development. Construction of the Lameque Wind Power Project brought hundreds of jobs and economic growth to the region.

The Lameque Wind Power Project is a model for Acciona’s many complementary capabilities. The project was developed and is wholly-owned and operated by Acciona Energy, was constructed by Acciona Infrastructure, and utilizes Acciona Windpower turbines, the company added.
