Bangladesh has 1 million homes using solar power

Multiple sources have reported that this is the fastest growth of solar power use in the world. There are now 5 million people in Bangladesh who use solar panels for their home.

Nazmul Haq of the Infrastructure Development Company said that the 1 million threshold is 18 months ahead of schedule and has a new target of 2.5 million homes by 2014.

IDCOL has multiple renewable energy and solar projects currently ongoing in Bangladesh, including a 11.2 kilowatt solar photovoltaic power plant to run a solar water pump in Shapahar, Naogaon. The group’s website also said it has a 100 kilwatt solar photovoltaic solar micro grid. A diesel fuel will be used to back the plant up just in case there is a period of low solar radiation.
